About Why Objectives Activities Membership

Why do we need the IOTPD?

As a resource centre
• to facilitate the exchange of information between existing transition centres in order to improve services
• to support and advise groups seeking to establish new transition centres
• to provide information for governmental and international agencies about professional dancers, their role in society and their transition requirements
• to provide information about transition issues to training institutions and dance companies.

As an advocate
• to raise the profile of the professional dancer worldwide and ensure widespread understanding of the transition challenge and the benefits of a successful transition
• to persuade governmental agencies to act on behalf of dancers and ensure the necessary support for transition programs

For collective strength
• to encourage the study of issues of transition by the academic community and others
• to represent the transition concerns of dancers in an international forum, such as UNESCO and the European Union
• to work for practical programs beneficial to dancers in areas such as insurance and disability protection
• to develop and encourage the implementation of international standards in the transition field
