The Dancer Transition Resource Centre (DTRC) in Canada is a membership organization whose mandate is to help professional dancers make necessary transitions into, within and from their professional performing careers. The DTRC provides a diverse range of services to dancers in transition on an individual basis and members choose the services which they find most appropriate to their needs. Academic, career, financial, legal and personal counseling are offered to members and grants are available for skills courses and retraining (with subsistence while in a full-time retraining program) both while performing and upon retirement. Since its inception in 1985 the DTRC has assisted over 9,000 dancers and provided over $3,000,000 in grants and services. In addition, the DTRC operates as a resource centre for the dance community and general public by providing seminars, educational materials, networking and information, as well as supporting activities that enhance the socio-economic condition of dancers.

In The Netherlands, the Dutch Retraining Program for Professional Dancers/Stichting Omscholingsregeling Dansers (SOD) was founded in 1986 and provides services to dancers in career transition in the Netherlands. The objective of the program is to help dancers choose a second career, finance the necessary retraining and guarantee a certain income level.
Dancers and companies pay a small monthly contribution to the program, which offers income support and grants for retraining, as well as counseling services, particularly career counseling. The program provides grants to dancers in transition to cover study and subsistence expenses as well as reimbursement of study costs depending on eligibility criteria. The program is geared to custom made training. The individual circumstances, wishes and needs of those entering re-training are taken into account wherever possible.
The average amount available for full retraining of an individual dancer is € 85,000. This amount can be directed to study costs, subsistence, and even capital investment if a former dancer decides to start his or her own business. More than 80% of the retrained dancers have been able to find employment within one year of retraining. Since its establishment the program has offered career support to thousands of dancers lasting from single advice to support for four or more years.
